The Sad Tragedy of US Action in Iraq

When I read about killings like these, I just want to weep.  Our bastard president has got us into a real mess.  Our soldiers kill innocent men, women and children with impunity.  It cannot be denied.  This illegal war will be a stain on our country for generations.  As someone once said, Where do we go to get our good name back?

It's the same when I visit the Vietnam Memorial in Washington.  Why were they sent to kill and die?  What is it good for?

Calling All Generic Candidates

I've been thinking about this for a while now - many polls show the Democrats winning generic Congressional ballots. That is, those polled would prefer to see a Democrat controlled Congress over a Republican one. That's great. Now all we have to do is find 435 generic Democrats and be sure they're running against generic Republicans.

Problem is, people get to like their Congress-critters, and with all the pork the Republicans have cooked up this year, they have a lot to show for being in Washington.

If we could just vote out the guy in the next district over, we'd be fine.

Wheels Coming Off The Wagon?

It sure looks like things are going poorly for the Bush crime family over in the White House and Congress. The latest NBC / Wall Street Journal poll has Bush below 40% popularity, Tom DeLay is under multiple indictment, Bill Frist's insider trading excuse story gets weaker by the day, and Joe Wilson may get to see Karl Rove frog-marched out of the White House after all. Jack Abramoff's tentacles seem to tie it all together.

So why am I not overjoyed at all of this? Because we've seen these guys on the ropes before, and they have amazing resiliency, if you call vindictive attacks and swift-boating attack ads resiliency.

I still can't imagine the One True Party relinquishing power now that they have it. We can only hope that there are enough honest soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen left when the time comes that a military takeover is not possible, but I would not put it past these guys to try.

They still have control of the voting machines in many jurisdictions, I assume, and they can certainly muster enough Rehnquist-style voter intimidation (he dabbled in it back in the day, don'tcha know).

It ain't over 'til it's over, and even then, Bush still has his Magic Pardon Pen in it's fur-lined Magic Box under his throne.

Shutting Down the Crack House

It warms my heart to think that the perpetrators of so much wrong in the White House may be getting their comeuppance in the form of indictments and co-conspirator declarations.  Not because I wish them ill or because I hate them, which I would not deny.  And not because they will not be indicted for their worst crimes.

No, it's more in the line of relief that the crack house on the block may finally get raided and shut down.  The only regret may be that the landlord can't be made to pay.  Yet.
