Which Doctor Who?

Prairie Angel asked who's the best Doctor. Cross-posting my response:
You could start with "The Five Doctors" and judge for yourself amongst a few of them.

Among the early Doctors, I have always favored the fourth, Tom Baker (1974-1981) and fifth, Peter Davison. Tom Baker only nominally appears in "The Five Doctors", by the way. Maybe they couldn't agree on terms.

For what it's worth, my "Doctor Who Programme Guide" that I got as a PBS premium was published in 1981, so it only goes through the first four doctors, and including the two of the recent BBC series, they're up to ten. I don't much remember six, seven, or eight. One of those was the (made for the US market?) TV movie, which was dreadful, IMHO.

I liked Christopher Eccleston in the 2005 Series 1 and David Tennant in the 2006 Series 2, and continuing this year. The new series have movie quality special effects. The earlier programs were pretty cheesy. Part of the "charm", I suppose.

The Series 1 and Series 2 DVDs don't appear to include the "Doctor Who Confidential" companion series, although they do claim to have "making of" and "behind the scenes" footage. "Confidential" was a series that in each program explored some dimension of the entire series back to 1963, including all of the Doctors, the sidekicks, and monsters.

Anyway, enjoy the Doctor!

Hey, Mom, thanks for bequeathing the disappearing Tardis cup to me! I use it almost every day.
